Halloween night can be a fun time for young kids as long as you follow some safety rules. Here are some Halloween child safety tips to follow:
1. Allowing the kids to get their desired candies, means that you will have to step back a bit when you are accompanying them when they go trick or treating. Don’t you remember; the kids who are trick or treating get the candles, not the parents. Resist the temptation to grab some of the candy and chocolate. If you were leaving sweets out for the children and grown ups were actually taking it instead, you would not feel too good about it.
2. Being that is always better to be safe rather than sorry, it is wise to avoid the homemade treats. A good piece of advice is to make sure that your kids are only accepting store bought candies. Some people put strange things into their cooking, so you don’t want to risk any allergies flaring up, or your kids getting sick. On the other hand it may be okay to take homemade food from those people who you know well.
3. Checking the candy that your kids have received, is a great idea before they start to eat it all. Be aware of any signs of damage to commercial packaging, or indications of someone tampering with the product. Food that looks to have been damaged, opened already or has holes in it, should be thrown away.
4. Before your children head out trick or treating, feed them up with a meal. This ensures that the kids will not be hungry while they’re out and so, they won’t be tempted to dig into any of the candies and chocolates that they will be receiving before you get a chance to check them.
5. Be sure that the kids are all able to recognize one another even while they’re in their costumes, and remember that you should be able to spot them too. Doing this reduces the risk of your child or any of the others getting lost, and you having trouble finding them.
